Gary Garrison is totally sweet. I think everyone who didn’t stay for the Q & A really missed out, especially those who are planning on writing for a living (although a lot of what he said could definitely be translated to any art form). One of the things that stuck in my mind was when he said, “I’ve had money, and I’ve had no money. You know what the difference is? Once you get past food and rent, nothing. If you honestly love to write, you’ll be happy with or without money.” I think we as a society place so much emphasis on money, that we put aside our passions for riches. He definitely challenged me to put aside my shallow dreams of picket fences for something that may be more financially “dangerous,” but also more fulfilling.
